Caleb Williams

Updated Heisman Odds Halfway Through CFB Season| News Article by Handicapperchic.com

Heading into Week 7 of the college football season, there haven’t been many changes to the top of the Heisman odds board, however, a new name sits with the shortest odds. At the start of the season, it was the reigning Heisman winner, Caleb Williams with the shortest odds at 475. While his odds have improved to 225, it is Michael Penix Jr. of Washington who has overtaken the shortest odds at 200.

Penix opened his year at 1200 odds to win the award back in January and has seen his odds shorten at every opportunity they’ve gotten. On the year, Penix has so far gone for 2,000 passing yards, 16 touchdowns, just two interceptions, and a 91.6 QBR which is the second-highest in the nation.

He has also led the Huskies to a strong 5-0 start to the season and as the #7 ranked team in the country while scoring 40 points per game.

Williams is not to be forgotten though as he’ll almost certainly end up in New York for the award ceremony at the end of the season. The Trojans are 6-0 on the season and currently the #10 ranked team in the country.

Williams has helped them score 40 points in every game this year including three which have gone for 50 . Helping him get there has been his contribution of 1,822 passing yards and 22 touchdowns on just one interception. His game on the ground has also been impressive at 124 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns.

Heisman odds: The favorites

Player Heisman Odds
USC QB Caleb Williams +475
Washington QB Michael Penix jr. +200
Oregon QB Bo Nix +600
Texas QB Quinn Ewers +900
Florida State QB Jordan Travis +1600
Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel +1400
Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke +3000
Washington State QB Cameron Ward +3000
Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy +3300
Notre Dame QB Sam Hartman +3500
LSU QB Jayden Daniels +3500

It’s clearly a two-man race between the two right bow as they are the only two players on the oddsboard with odds under 500 with Bo Nix being the next closest player to them at 600. Nix could soon make his argument as well having led Oregon to the #8 team in the country while throwing 1,459 yards and 15 touchdowns.

While his numbers aren’t near what Williams and Penix are doing, Oregon has still put up 40 points in four of five games this year which includes an 81-point game in Week 1.

All in all, if you plan on betting on one of the two to win the award, now might be your last chance to get somewhat decent value on them as a $100 bet on both would pay out $200 on Penix and $225 on Williams. Other more profitable bets to make right now include Dillon Gabriel ( 1400), Jordan Travis ( 1600), and Drake Maye ( 1800).
