As the NFL season moves past the midway point, the race for the NFL MVP has begun to heat up as Patrick Mahomes has taken over as the odds on favorite to win the award.
As the odds sit right now, it is coming down to a three-way race between Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts.
These are the only three players in the league with odds to win the MVP sitting under 500 odds.

Pat Mahomes originally opened as the MVP favorite at 650 odds while Allen wasn’t far behind at 700. Jalen Hurts didn’t enter the conversation until Week 2 of the season when his odds dropped from the 4500 at first opening to 800 following Week 2.
Currently, Mahomes sits at 200 odds, Jalen Hurts follows at 300, and Josh Allen rounds out the top 3 with 325 odds.
It isn’t hard to see why Mahomes’ MVP odds shifted to the shortest position being that he is doing the most of the three with arguably less talent to work with.
Mahomes is currently the NFL leader in both passing yards (2,605) and touchdowns (21) heading into Week 10.
One major factor though that has led Mahomes odds to dropping as well is the injury that occurred to Josh Allen.
Allen suffered a UCL injury during the Bills Week 9 loss to the New York Jets and there has been no word to whether or not he is going to play.
If Allen doesn’t miss time with his injury though, he has played lights out this season as well coming in right behind Mahomes in passing touchdowns with 19 and has the fourth-highest passing yards as well at 2,403.
If the injury isn’t serious, bettors shouldn’t expect Allen to slow down. It is also worth noting that Allen came in second place MVP votes in 2020 and has put up similar numbers since.
Jalen Hurts shouldn’t be left out of the MVP conversation either being that he is in the best position of the three quarterbacks as the Eagles remain the only undefeated team in the league going into Week 10.
Another area that Hurts competes well beyond the three is his rushing ability. He has 326 yards on the ground to go with six rushing touchdowns which is the most rushing TDs of the three QBs as well.
Hurts could even take over the MVP favorite at some point if he continues to push the Eagles towards an undefeated regular season meaning right now is the best time to get in on them before a potential shift.
