Suryakumar Yadav’s scintillating century set the foundation for the milestone victory of India by 91 runs against Sri Lanka on the 7th of January in Rajkot. With that, India clinched the series from Sri Lanka by 2-1.
Suryakumar became the second-fastest-century scorer after Rohit Sharma in cricket’s shortest format. He blasted 112-run innings of 51 balls and pushed India to a mammoth 228 runs score line.
It was his third T20 century, and he hammered the Lankan bowlers to send the ball out of the park in all directions. Then Indian bowlers had an easy task to accomplish, and that they did brilliantly by restricting visitors to 137 runs and confirmed the series.
While the previous two matches were fought at equal levels, this was just the opposite of those games. India thoroughly dominated the field in all departments.
Sri Lanka started well with 44 runs inside five overs without any loss. But then three wickets in successive nine balls turned the table of the game, and the Lankans were reduced to 51 for 3. The Indian skipper sent Axar Patel to replace Arshdeep’s pace attack and dismissed Kusal Mendis at 23.
Then Arshdeep and Pandya struck down Nissanka and Avishka Fernando. After that, Sri Lanka forfeited its wicket at regular intervals and wrapped up within the seventeenth over of the innings.
Yuzuvendra Chahal and Umran Malik claimed two wickets each, and Arshdeep landed three wickets. Though, extras and no balls didn’t leave India’s back this time also, as they lent 12 runs to the opposition in the form of a no-ball and eleven wides.
Earlier in the evening, Suryakumar slammed a fifty in 26 balls; after that, he only took 19 balls to attain a ton. In the whole match, he rejoiced his innings with nine maximums and seven boundaries. Suryakumar climaxed the final over with a six and four off Chamika Karunaratne.
Previously flopped, Shubman Gill played cautiously to reach 46 runs in 36 deliveries. Rahul Tripathi slammed 35 runs from 16 balls after Ishan Kishan’s dismissal in the first over. India scored 53 in the power play, losing two wickets.
Gill kept rolling his scorecard at a low pace, whereas, on the opposite end, Suryakumar was firing up the field with his effortless prodigality. Wanindu Hasaranga’s leg-break finally dismantled the duo, but the damage was done already.
After Gill’s dismissal, Hardik Pandya and Deepak Hooda quickly left the field one by one. In the end, Axar and Suryakumar escorted India over the 220-run mark.
