Travis Kelce

Travis Kelce might not finish as 2023's top fantasy tight end| News Article by Handicapperchic.com

This might be the best year of Travis Kelce’s life so far — it’s hard to have a bad time when you start dating a billionaire and international music superstar — but it hasn’t been quite the fantasy season he expected coming into the campaign, nor has it been the one his owners anticipated.

Through the first 13 weeks, Kelce has still totaled the second-most points among tight ends and holds the highest scoring average, but he hasn’t been head and shoulders above the field like he has been in previous seasons.

Through the first 13 weeks of the 2022 regular season, Kelce had totaled 246.3 points in leagues that awarded a full point per reception, over 90 points more than the second-leading tight end in Mark Andrews. He was averaging 20.5 points in a PPR league, 6.5 points more weekly than second-place Andrews.

This year has been a different story. In the first 13 weeks, he’s totaled just 183.3 points. Granted, he did miss Week 1 with injury this season, but he’s still tallied 63 fewer points than he did at the same point last year. His average output has reflected that, as he’s putting up 16.7 points per game this season, nearly four points fewer per outing.

2023 Top NFL Tight Ends

1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs
2. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
3. Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens
4. T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings
5. Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
6. Darren Waller, New York Giants
7. Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons
8. Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars
9. Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers
1
0. Dalton Schultz, Houston Texans

Furthermore, Kelce’s trending in the wrong direction. Since Week 7, he’s averaged just 11.5 points in five games, placing him 10th among tight ends. He’s fallen behind some of his top competitors lately, like George Kittle and T.J. Hockenson

More worryingly, though, he’s being outplayed by players that are usually several tiers below him: middle-of-the-pack tight ends such as Jake Ferguson and Evan Engram and newcomers like Trey McBride and Sam LaPorta.

Kelce has bounced back slightly in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills, when he grabbed six balls for 83 yards, but he failed to get in the end zone. There are still three games left on the year for him to try to reclaim the tight end crown, but he’ll have his work cut out for him. T.J. Hockenson averaged 18.1 points between Weeks 8 and 13 and has a favorable schedule ahead of him after a mediocre outing in Week 14.

Kelce has looked every bit as dominant physically as he has in years past, but his production has told a different story. Perhaps it’s the weak state of the Kansas City Chiefs offense around him or maybe it’s his relationship with Taylor Swift. Either way, the Travis Kelce from 2022 is MIA.
