The NFL has no strong favorites after 8 weeks
| News Article by Handicapperchic.com

Those rooting for more parity in the NFL have appeared to have gotten their wish. Through eight weeks, the league has found itself without a single undefeated team.

In fact, there haven’t been any since Week 6, when both the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers were upset by backup quarterbacks, with Philly losing to Garrett Wilson and the New York Jets and the Niners dropping one against the Cleveland Browns with PJ Walker at the helm in place for an injured Deshaun Watson.

All of the other expected juggernauts in the league had lost before that. The Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and other contenders all dropped winnable games and blemished their records.

So far, none of the teams have truly separated themselves from the pack and established themselves as true favorites for the Super Bowl. Aside from the Eagles, every team in the league has already racked up multiple losses through eight weeks.

Some of the teams have been severely disappointing even. The Los Angeles Chargers seem further away from contention than they have been in any other season in Justin Herbert’s fourth season. While the gunslinger has technically had his best statistical season to date, the Chargers sit at just 3-4.

They do have a positive point differential, though, so they’ll be hoping that the math evens out in their favor in the second half of the season, and they’ll start winning the one-possession games that they’ve dropped so far in the year.

Los Angeles Chargers Stats, Passing:

PLAYERGP GS ATT CMP PCT YDS AVG YDS/G LNG TD INT SCK YDSL RATE
Justin Herbert QB71725268.7 18907.5270.06013415127101.1
Keenan Allen WR711100.0 4949.07.0491000158.3

Another disappointing squad in the conference is the Cincinnati Bengals, who are technically last place in the AFC North division, although they’re tied with both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns at 4-3. Joe Burrow got off to a typical slow start to the year, and it’s really hurt them this season.

But, in typical Bengals fashion, it appears that the team might have figured some things out in the past few weeks and will look to finish the year strong.

The Philadelphia Eagles have cruised to a 7-1 record, but they haven’t felt truly dominant in any of their games aside from their 31-17 statement win over the red-hot Miami Dolphins. Every other game essentially came down to the stretch, even with some truly pitiful opponents in their way including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Commanders. Their loss the Jets especially put them on fraud watch.

Is the league just truly more balance than it’s ever been? Or are all of the best teams in the league just simply playing below their capabilities so far?
